A Spooktacular Surprise in the Heartlands
A short video showing an HDB corridor transformed into a Halloween wonderland has been warming hearts across Singapore.

The clip, shared by @/therealtrafflock on Instagram, captures residents coming together to deck out their corridor with eerie lights, cobwebs, caution tape, and spooky props. The video was captioned, ‘Childhood core memories secured. I love the enthusiasm of this community!’ and posted on 25 October.

Kids dressed in halloween costumes roamed from door to door, receiving candies from their neighbours.

One resident even went all out, acting as a “scare victim” who pretended to be electrocuted when touched — a performance that drew laughter and applause.

The decorations, which included orange lighting and playful warning signs, turned the space into a scene straight out of a Halloween movie.

Not only did the decor stand out, the warmth and laughter shared among neighbours of all ages was difficult to miss.
Online Applause for the “Kampong Spirit”

A Glimpse of the Kampong Spirit
More than just a fun Halloween moment, the viral clip beautifully illustrates a reflection of the enduring kampong spirit that Singaporeans nostalgically hold dear.

Rooted in the city-state’s village past, this spirit embodies neighbourliness, care, and shared joy. The idea is that even in high-rise living, people can still look out for one another, share laughter, and create memories together.
Through something as simple as Halloween decorations and candy exchanges, this group of residents reminded everyone that community is not yet lost — it just takes a little creativity and heart to keep the kampong spirit alive.
