After 22 years in Singapore’s underground metal scene, homegrown melodic death metal band Deus Ex Machina (DEM) just wrapped up its first-ever Europe and UK tour – marking a major milestone in the band’s history.

DEM, managed by Vent Box Productions, was selected as one of five supporting acts on the Motocultor Festival Across Europe Tour 2026, becoming the only Southeast Asian band on the bill. The tour saw them perform across cities in the Netherlands, Germany, France and the United Kingdom where they shared the stage with Italian parody-metal heavyweights Nanowar of Steel and Mongolian folk-metal act Uuhai.

For a band that began in Singapore’s tight-knit metal circuit in 2004, the run across Europe represents years of persistence finally translating onto an international stage. Several shows drew strong turnouts of 300 or more, with audiences in cities like London, Bochum and Lille responding warmly to the band’s high-energy sets.

This tour also introduced a refreshed, female-fronted line-up. Vocalist Syarmilla Javer of local metal band E-thereal stepped in for the Europe and UK leg, bringing a new dynamic to DEM’s sound while staying true to the band’s melodic death metal roots.

Beyond the stage, the impact was also visible online. During the tour period, DEM saw a significant spike in engagement across their social platforms, including a 30 per cent increase in Instagram followers within two weeks, higher story views and growing interaction from new international listeners. Their Facebook page also recorded over 11,000 views during the tour window.

Speaking about the experience, guitarist and founding member Ryan Joseph described the run as something the band never imagined would happen.

“Playing in Europe and the UK after more than two decades was a huge moment for us. It pushes us to keep going and to see how far we can take this.”

Having toured in Australia and across Asia previously, this marks DEM’s first extensive run in Europe and the UK. With new material already in the works, the band is setting its sights on returning to international stages in the near future.

DEM currently comprises founding guitarist Ryan Joseph (Singaporean), bassist Mikael Loh (Singaporean), drummer Neil Halliday (Scottish), guitarist Jussi Ahokas (Finnish) and interim vocalist Syarmilla Javer (Singaporean) for the Europe and UK run. The band’s core line-up has remained rooted in Singapore’s metal scene for over two decades, steadily building its reputation both locally and abroad.

For a Singapore metal band to carve out space on a major European festival tour is no small feat – and for DEM, this chapter may just be the beginning.
