A Swiss woman died, and her partner was seriously injured after swimming in the early hours of the morning on 27 November at Kylies Beach in New South Wales, Australia. The pair had arrived at a campsite the night before and were swimming in the sea in the morning.

Despite the rapid arrival of emergency services, the woman died at the scene. It was later revealed that a large bull shark had attacked them in quick succession, which experts say is extremely rare.
Unexpected disaster during early morning swim
The Swiss couple went swimming in Crowdy Bay National Park at around 6:30am. The area is very popular with tourists, and morning swims are a common sight here. But today everything changed in a matter of seconds.

The shark first attacked the woman and then bit her partner when she tried to control the situation. Police said they knew each other, and the attack occurred after they went into the water together.

Rare double attack by bull shark
Experts say it is extremely unusual for the same shark to target two people. Bull sharks are usually the first to attack humans by mistake. Recent studies have shown that the presence of sharks on the Australian coast has increased slightly.

Earlier, the death of a surfer off the coast of Sydney was also discussed. However, the double attack by the same shark is—in the words of experts—”unusual and exceptional.”
Emergency assistance and life-saving heroism
After the shark attack, a passerby quickly ran to the man’s leg and wrapped a cloth around it to make a tourniquet. Emergency services officials said that without this action, both people could have died.

The injured man was later taken to hospital by helicopter and is in a serious but stable condition. Police have launched a full investigation into the incident, and the beach area has been closed indefinitely.
Widespread reaction on social media
As the video and news spread, various comments started coming in on social media. Some wrote that the shark was in its own area—there would be a risk if it went into the sea.
Others expressed surprise that there was so much controversy about going out for a swim so early in the morning, because early morning swimming is very normal for people living near the sea.

Many said that it was not a case of blame—it was a tragic accident. Some joked that no shark eats a dry person—meaning that the sea is the risk.

Locals’ concerns and warnings
After the incident, panic has spread in the coastal areas, and locals have become more cautious. They say that the movement of sharks in the area has increased somewhat in recent times, and therefore caution is needed.
Besides, many feel that the lack of lifeguards on the beach makes such accidents more terrible. Local tourism businessmen are also concerned, because if the beach is closed for a long time, there could be economic losses. Nevertheless, everyone agrees that life safety is now the top priority.
