Here are 10 Most Asked Questions About Sex By Country
Methodology: To arrive at this data I used SEMRush, a search engine data scraping tool with large databases of search queries from around the world. I filtered by country database and looked at question-based keyword search terms with the root word “sex”. I then filtered in descending order of search volume/ month. This is what you see below 👇🏽.
🇸🇬 Singapore
Let’s start with sunny Singapore. Our sunny homeland. What are people searching for when it comes to sex?
I thought I would go ahead and answer these questions for you (seeking some advice from my friends in the sexual health and wellness industry) before we jump on to what other countries are searching for:
So here goes…
What is sex?
Let’s talk about the world of ‘oomph’! It’s not just about the traditional ‘you know what,’ folks. We’re diving into a whole spectrum of actions that set the mood: think kissing, caressing, giving a hand, and the oral adventure. Plus, hey, you can definitely go solo too, a ‘me-time’ session we call self-indulgence! And I promise no kitten got killed.
I spoke with several sex coaches and therapists to gather some information on what they’re recommending to their clients. Here’s the best in the field ladies (and gents). I don’t discriminate.
How to have sex?
Alright, so sex is when one, two, or more people get all hot and bothered together. It’s about touching, talking, or mixing both.
Often when people talk about sex, they are talking about sexual intercourse or penetrative sex. Sexual activity should be enjoyable for everyone involved and each person should provide consent throughout the event.
It is totally okay to change your mind mid-way through, if your clothes are on/ off whatever state you are in, consent is consent. And if you’re not into it, you don’t need to be doing it.
How does sex feel?
Sex feels…good baby. When with the right partner, the right setting, and chemistry it can be 🔥.
Do you want to get it on with your partner, but are unsure how you can have a more open discussion around sex? I have the PERFECT gift idea for you. The Sex Bomb is a bath bomb that fizzles down into a Raven Bullet Vibrator. Now what a subtle way to get your partner naked, and make a hint. How does sex feel for a female?
“Warm, tingling, sharp, shivery, hot.”
it feels all sorts of the following: warm, tingling, sharp, shivery, hot, waves of temperature, slowly building from toes to head orgasm or slap you in the face surprise orgasm, soft, wet, hard, sweaty, full, twisting, grinding, sensual…
“It’s like riding on a unicorn.”
“It’s like riding on a unicorn, while the sun sets over the ocean’s horizon, and Morgan Freeman is narrating the entire thing.”
“A Q-tip”
A Q-tip after a shower, times 10.
And many more well-put descriptions in this article where 22 Women Attempt to Explain What Sex Feels Like for Them.
What does sex mean?
Sex doesn’t need to mean anything. Or it can mean everything. This is entirely up to you and it’s your decision.
We live in a culture where we shame people for their opinions on either end of the spectrum. Sex is a natural part of being human, and there needs to be less shame associated with it so we can have open and useful discussions and make educated decisions on our desires.
See the paradox? The same applies to how we judge based on things like body count. We live in a culture where we shame people for their opinions on either end of the spectrum. Sex is a natural part of being human, and there needs to be less shame associated with it so we can have open and useful discussions.
How to have good sex?
Good sex is a combination of chemistry, intimacy, and comfort with yourself. This is a topic in itself, and one I am sure I will broach in future columns. Check out this sexual wellness guide that offers a safe space for self-exploration, personal stories, and interactive experiences for transformation. Oh and did I mention it was written by an expert in the sexual health and wellness field?
How long does sex last?
Sex can last as long, or as short as you want it to.
There are loads of reasons people jiggy with it. Here are some:
- Want to be parents, make some little rascals.
- Craving that tingling pleasure, know what I mean? 😏
- Showing some love and all those mushy feels.
- Craving that super-close connection, getting all snug and cozy.
As long as it’s between two consenting adults – go for gold.
So without much ado, here are 10 Most Asked Questions About Sex By Country [Continued]
🇲🇾 Malaysia
And just across the Causeway, things are a little bit different…seems like there is more of a focus on the different types of sex, be it oral or anal. Did you know that penetrative anal sex is forbidden in Islam?
I find the data shows an interesting expression of the effects of a more nuanced religious system. What do you guys think?
Another question that stood out to me was: Is it ok to have sex every day? This led me to wonder… how often are Malaysians having sex? Here is a Reddit thread I chanced upon during that rabbit hole.
My findings from a general scour of the internet:
- Malaysian adults have sex six to eight times monthly. [1]
- Singaporean adults have sex 0.78 times a week in 2020, more than the average of 0.68 times a week in 2018, the study found. [2]
This data is skewed since it’s looking at Covid specifically, but this is the most recent data I could find online. If any of you have a better report to look at, please reach out to me!
So…is it ok to have sex everyday?
According to the experts, the answer is yes. If with one person there is no inherent risk in daily sex. If you are engaging with multiple partners… well let’s just say you’re increasing the odds of contracting an STI. So always remember, safety first!
But outside of the risk of contracting an STI if you’re bonking many partners – daily sex can have multiple health benefits. Physical contact releases Oxytocin a natural chemical also known as the “love hormone.”
Oxytocin has been shown to:
- Improve moods
- Reduce stress levels; and
- Promote healing
Our bodies are also flooded with the neurotransmitter dopamine during sex. Dopamine affects how our body feels pleasure and is foundational to our reward center.
Here’s a fun way to hack your brain in a cool infographic I found online:
🇹🇭 Thailand
I LOVE Thailand. It’s so progressive, in so many different ways. Personally, I think it’s a culture that has developed without being touched by colonization and it shows, in the warmth of the people… but does it show in their bedroom habits?
What I find particularly stands out is the high search volume for: Can you get HIV from oral sex? I am assuming they mean unprotected oral sex here. The answer to this question is, the chances of yes, but the risk is relatively low.
There are several factors may increase that risk, including sores in the mouth or vagina or on the penis, bleeding gums, oral contact with menstrual blood, and the presence of other sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).
🇦🇺 Australia
And how ’bout ol mates down under? Well, it seems they’re down to get jiggy with it whether they’re pregnant or have a uti…
A question I was left with was…
Why are so many people bleeding after sex?
So I dug in.
Common causes of vaginal bleeding after sex may include cervical inflammation, often harmless but occasionally linked to sexually transmitted infections and cervical polyps, typically non-cancerous growths on the cervix. Additionally, friction or insufficient lubrication during sex, normal uterine bleeding associated with the menstrual cycle, infections, genital sores, precancerous cervical conditions, cervical ectropion, pelvic organ prolapse, or certain medical conditions and treatments can also result in post-coital bleeding.
While many cases may not require treatment and are typically harmless, it’s essential to be aware that sometimes, this bleeding can signal a more severe problem.
Also, this is a worrying trend… Can you get chlamydia from oral sex? Though transmission is less likely, why risk it? Just wait out the antibiotic cycle people. Goodness.
🇩🇪 Germany
I mean… have you been to Berlin? If you haven’t, literally anything goes in that city. My experiences in Berlin had my curiosity piqued, and Germany of course did not disappoint.
Other than usual suspect repeats from previous countries, what stood out to me with Germany was well obviously “how to build a sex room” and “warum gibt es sex puppen” which a little bit of research on my friend Google Translate told me means:
Why are there sex dolls? Lol.
So why are there sex dolls? “The special thing about sex dolls is their sexual functions, but this does not mean that they are used exclusively for sexual purposes. They can also serve as artificial love partners, social companions, or photo models, which is why their owners often call them love dolls or simply dolls [3].
The article Design, Use, and Effects of Sex Dolls and Sex Robots: Scoping Review makes a strong case for recognizing the substantial shifts in how people engage in sexual behavior due to digital media and technology. It emphasizes the importance of paying attention to embodied technologies like sex dolls and sex robots in this context. I find these types of topics, the convergence and blurring of the artificial and organic FASCINATING, and am keenly watching developments in that space. Stay tuned for an article on the hottest development in sexual technologies in 2023. Coming next.
🇫🇷 France
Ah France – with all the Hollywood glamour on the romance of Frace, be it Paris the city of love, or the beautiful beachsides of the south – let’s see what the country of looooove has to ask about sex.
“Je montre ma sexe tape” translates to exactly what it sounds like: I show my sex tape.
“How to have sex band annonce” translates to…How to have sex trailer.
🤨
🔎 What was my Research Process?
I mentioned it before, but just want to state it again. In this exercise, I wanted to make sure we were comparing apples to apples when I was collating this list of the top 10 questions asked about sex. I used SEMRush – a tool that I use regularly to guide my decision-making around digital marketing and business ventures.
I filtered by country database and looked at question-based keyword search terms with the root word “sex”. I then filtered in descending order of search volume/ month.
