A shooting at a shopping mall in Setia Alam, Shah Alam, Malaysia, on Saturday night (Feb 8) left a janitor injured and sent shoppers into panic.
According to the police statement, the suspect, a local man in his 30s with a history of drug-related and criminal offences, remains at large.
The incident happened around 10.50 pm when the suspect opened fire inside the mall before hijacking a car and escaping. Police have launched a large-scale manhunt to track him down.

Suspect Fired Eight Shots Before Fleeing
According to Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, the suspect fired a total of eight shots during the attack.

Four of these struck the victim, while additional shattered a staircase window and a sliding door inside the mall.
Janitor Shot in Leg and Buttocks; Rushed to Hospital
The victim, a janitor at the shopping centre, was storing cleaning equipment on Level P1 when the suspect suddenly fired at him.
He was hit in the leg and buttocks but managed to flee into the mall to seek help.

He was later taken to Shah Alam Hospital, where he is stable.
Suspect Identified, Has 11 Prior Offences
Police have identified the gunman as a local man in his 30s with a fair complexion. As reported by NST, he has 11 previous criminal and drug-related offences.
After the attack, he fled to Level P2, where he continued shooting before hijacking a Perodua Ativa at gunpoint.
The suspect forced the driver to take him out of Shah Alam before escaping along a highway on foot.
Authorities Tighten Security at Shopping Malls
Following the shooting, Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain announced increased security measures at shopping malls nationwide.

Security personnel and auxiliary police officers have been instructed to stay alert to prevent similar incidents.
Motive Allegedly Linked to Janitor’s Request to Move Belongings
The Star reports that the suspect may have been angered after the janitor asked him to move his belongings.
However, police are still determining the exact motive behind the attack. Additionally, authorities have urged the public to avoid speculation that may cause unnecessary panic.
Setia City Mall Reopens After Shooting
Despite the incident, Setia City Mall reopened on Sunday (Feb 9) after police confirmed it was safe. Mall management reassured shoppers that their safety remains a top priority and said they are working closely with the authorities.
Police are urging anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to contact ASP Mohd Afandi Ahmad or the Shah Alam District Police.
