Festive Bonus Caught On Video

While many Malaysians spent Chinese New Year visiting relatives and enjoying reunion meals, one security guard appears to have had an unexpectedly rewarding shift at work instead.

A TikTok video circulating online shows the uniformed guard smiling as he proudly displays a thick stack of angpaus collected during the festive period.

The caption on the clip jokingly described the moment as a “Chinese New Year free money collection”. As he opened several packets on camera, some were revealed to contain RM100 notes — drawing surprised reactions from viewers.

Beside him sat an even taller pile of unopened red packets, suggesting residents had been especially generous this year.

Netizens Say Appreciation Was Well Earned

Online reactions quickly shifted from amusement to appreciation. Many users said the generous angpaus likely reflected the guard’s dedication throughout the year.

Numerous commenters pointed out that migrant security guards, many of whom are from Nepal, frequently work 12- to 16-hour shifts without adequate breaks. They protect residential areas while remaining vigilant in spite of this.

Others mentioned that everyday interactions and small gestures like greetings frequently leave a lasting impression on residents.

The large number of angpaus “speaks of him as a person,” according to one commenter, who also added that workers who leave their home countries to make a living abroad find that appreciation feels meaningful.

“What You Give, You Get Back”

Some netizens pointed out that such generosity rarely happens without reason. If a guard had not consistently performed his duties well, they said, residents would unlikely reward him so warmly.

Parents also shared that giving angpau to security personnel — including school guards — has become a small but heartfelt tradition to thank those who continue working while others celebrate.

While a few joked about switching careers after seeing the video, many agreed the moment served as a reminder: behind gated communities and festive celebrations are workers quietly keeping watch, often through long holidays away from family.
