The incident took place on 29 Deccember at the entrance of the overhead Ayer Keroh R&R. Immediately after the video was released, a wide discussion started on the matter. Many people questioned why such accidents are happening there again and again.

Scenes From the Viral Video

First, the viral video shows at least three cars standing in a damaged condition on the slip road. Along with this, some pedestrians are trying to move the cars. Because, the cars created a major traffic jam behind them.

In addition, heavy vehicles were not able to enter. As a result, a chaotic situation was created in the entire R&R area. This scene quickly spread on social media.

Cause of the Accident

According to the initial investigation by the police, the main cause of the accident was illegal parking. When the trailer entered the designated lane for heavy vehicles, it saw cars stopped on both sides of the road.

As a result, the road narrowed and the trailer had difficulty moving. So, the trailer collided with several vehicles. Although there was no cargo in the trailer, the extent of the damage was significant.

Police Investigation

Meanwhile, Alor Gajah Police Chief Superintendent Ahmad Abu Bakar confirmed the incident. He said that the matter is currently being looked into by the Bukit Aman Highway Investigation Unit.

In addition, an investigation has been initiated under Section 48(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. If convicted under this section, a maximum fine of RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to one year can be imposed. Therefore, the police are taking the matter seriously.

Second Consecutive Incident

Notably, this is the second trailer accident in the same location in just two days. Previously, on 28 December, another trailer hit an illegally parked car. A video circulating on TikTok shows an SUV getting stuck under the trailer. The repeated incidents have further angered the general public. Many have demanded stricter enforcement of the law.

Netizens’ Reactions

Netizens on social media have strongly criticized the irresponsible behavior of drivers. Many have commented that it is regrettable that lessons have not been learned even after previous accidents. Some have demanded permanent surveillance and fines.

In addition, negligence on the part of the authorities has also been raised. As a result, these incidents have brought new safety questions to the fore.
