Scoot, the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines (SIA), is set to expand its operational capabilities with the addition of its third and fourth Embraer E190-E2 aircraft.
These new aircraft, named Jalan-Jalan and Travel Kaki, are scheduled to arrive in Singapore in September and October 2024. This fleet expansion aligns with Scoot’s strategy to offer more routes and increase connectivity within Southeast Asia, a region where demand for budget air travel continues to grow.
New Destinations in Southeast Asia: Kertajati and Malacca
In conjunction with the fleet expansion, Scoot will introduce services to two new destinations: Kertajati in Indonesia and Malacca in Malaysia. These additions will increase Scoot’s network to 72 destinations, reinforcing its position as a key player in the Southeast Asian market.
- Kertajati, Indonesia: Starting September 28, 2024, Scoot will fly to Kertajati twice a week. This spot gives travelers a chance to enjoy the beautiful scenery and rich culture of Greater Bandung, a region celebrated for its lively arts scene and natural landscapes.
- Malacca, Malaysia: Beginning October 23, 2024, Scoot will have five weekly flights to Malacca. This UNESCO World Heritage site is known for its historic significance and diverse cultural heritage. Visitors can explore Malacca’s rich history, reflected in its unique architecture and delicious cuisine.
Expanded Services and Aircraft Deployment
In addition to launching new routes, Scoot is also expanding the frequency of flights on several existing routes. Here are the key updates:
- Pekanbaru, Indonesia: Twice-weekly flights will be added to the existing services with the new Embraer E190-E2 aircraft, complementing the current Airbus A320 operations.
- Balikpapan, Indonesia: An increase in flight frequency to five times weekly, starting in October 2024.
- Makassar, Indonesia: A boost to six times weekly flights beginning October 2024.
- Davao, Philippines: An increase from seven to nine weekly flights starting in November 2024, supported by the new aircraft.
- Vientiane, Laos: Expansion from three to four weekly flights by December 2024.
Scoot’s Comprehensive Network Growth
These enhancements are part of Scoot’s broader strategy to strengthen its regional connectivity, particularly to non-metro cities that are less served by direct flights. By October 2024, Scoot will operate 78 weekly flights to Indonesia and 115 weekly flights to Malaysia. Additionally, by November 2024, the airline will offer 37 weekly flights to the Philippines and four weekly flights to Laos by December 2024.
Scoot’s network expansion also includes a new route to Subang, Malaysia, starting 1 September 2024, which provides an alternative gateway to Kuala Lumpur, offering travelers more flexibility and convenience.
Booking Information and Fares
Flights to Kertajati and Malacca are available for booking via Scoot’s website, mobile app, and other channels. All-in Economy class fares start from SGD 92 to Kertajati and SGD 69 to Malacca, inclusive of taxes. Scoot’s Continued Commitment to Affordable Travel
Scoot’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Leslie Thng, expressed enthusiasm for the airline’s ongoing expansion, stating, “We are excited to introduce Kertajati and Malacca to our network.
