The airline will operate both domestic and international routes, positioning Sarawak as a key aviation hub in Borneo.

Strengthening Regional and Rural Connectivity

A core mission of AirBorneo is to maintain and expand air services to remote areas in Sarawak and Sabah. According to The Borneo Post, the airline will continue providing rural air services (RAS), ensuring accessibility for communities in hard-to-reach locations.

To accommodate future growth, there are proposals for a new international airport in Kuching, aimed at boosting global accessibility and attracting more visitors to Sarawak.

Strategic Alliances and Code-Sharing Agreements

To strengthen its network, AirBorneo will collaborate with other international carriers through code-sharing agreements, including a partnership with Malaysia Airlines.

These alliances will offer passengers more seamless travel options and enhance Sarawak’s global connectivity.

The Sarawak government is also working with MAG to ensure a smooth transition and operational continuity.

Plans are in place to develop training programs for aviation professionals, equipping the workforce with essential skills for the industry.

Economic Impact and Job Creation

Additionally, AirBorneo is set to create jobs across aviation and tourism, from customer service to technical and managerial roles, enhancing local skills.

Abang Johari emphasized that Sarawak’s control over its air services is a strategic move to boost economic growth, attract investments, and tailor air connectivity to local needs.

Commitment to Passenger Experience and Service Excellence

The Sarawak government has pledged that AirBorneo will uphold high service standards, ensuring passenger comfort and reliability. Fleet modernization is also planned to enhance the travel experience.

As the airline takes off, it is expected to play a key role in strengthening regional transportation, driving economic growth, and improving accessibility for both locals and international visitors.
