Massive Python Crashes Through Ceiling, Landing on Family Sofa in Perak, Malaysia

A shocking incident unfolded in Kampung Dew, Kamunting, when an enormous python, estimated to be over five meters long and weighing approximately 80 kilograms, crashed through the ceiling of a family’s living room.

The reptile, which is believed to have entered the house from a nearby oil palm plantation, startled the occupants when it landed on their sofa.

Operation to Capture the Giant Reptile

The Taiping District Civil Defence Force (APM) was alerted to the situation on November 22, following a distress call made through the emergency hotline at around 8 PM. According to NST, seven APM personnel were deployed to the scene to handle the reptile.

According to District APM officer Faizulhalimi Mohd Yunus, the team had to break through the ceiling in the living room to coax the python out before capturing it. However, despite its massive size, the python was reportedly calm and not aggressive during the rescue.

Ceiling Collapse Stuns Family

A viral video shared on the Facebook group Taiping Bandar Warisan Perak captured the aftermath of the incident, showing a gaping hole in the ceiling and the python slithering across the sofa.

The footage also recorded the frightened screams of a child, presumably in shock after witnessing such an unusual event in their home.

From Plantation to Ceiling

APM officials suspect that the snake sought refuge inside the house after wandering in from the nearby plantation.

It is unclear how long the python had been hiding within the ceiling before its weight caused the structure to give way.

After crashing through, the reptile attempted to escape to the bathroom but was eventually secured by the APM team in a metal cage.

Returned to the Wild

Once captured, the python was transferred to the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) for appropriate handling.

Incidents like this show the increasing challenges of wildlife finding its way into homes, often due to habitat loss and shifting weather patterns.

Residents, particularly those living near forests or plantations, are urged to remain calm and report any similar encounters to the authorities right away.
