This is a disturbing and unusual trend that is rapidly gaining momentum on Tik Tok. It is referred to as plastic eating and most users who use it claim that it assists them to lose weight in a short time.

Videos depict individuals wrapping their mouths in plastic wraps, pouring food on top of plastic wraps, biting lightly to enjoy the flavor, and spitting all the contents out. In this way, they think that they are able to consume food without calories.
The videos have startled numerous audiences. There are clips that have gotten thousands of views within a few days. Users state in such brief videos that the technique enables them to eat without the need to actually swallow food.
To others, it appears to be a fast way out of becoming overweight. Nevertheless, health professionals are currently casting serious questions on this abnormal practice.
How the Trend Works
Plastic eating is not a complex concept. People believe that they can chew food, although they do not swallow it, and this can make the brain believe that it is full. They even think their body will believe that they have eaten something. Since they spit the food out, they reckon that they are not taking up calories.

Reports shared by Yahoo! Life tell that such an approach is marketed as a means to lower the threat of obesity. Its proponents say it can reduce hunger and prevent overeating.
Yet physicians indicate that this has no scientific evidence that it works. Indeed, eating without swallowing and consequently swallowing food may raise the amount of stomach acid and leave the individual even hungrier in the future.
Health Threats and Health Care Issues.
According to medical practitioners, it is dangerous to cover the mouth with plastic. A genuine danger of choking, in the event of tearing or slipping of the plastic, exists. Accidental ingestion of small plastic pieces might also lead to the obstruction of the intestines or other internal issues.

There has also been a concern by dentists. Excessive chewing and spitting of food may damage the teeth and gums. Moreover, poor nutrition may be brought about by lack of eating the right way.
In the long run this can cause a weaker body and mental health. Other specialists assume that the tendency may be also connected with eating disorders that need severe medical care.

It has been discussed in other platforms including X where a lot of users have responded vehemently. The content is shocking and unhealthy, as some people say it is, however, some people ask whether the trend actually works.
The videos are still spreading, and doctors are encouraging the youth not to attempt such extreme measures without being aware of the potential harm that it could cause them.
