A British tourist’s night in Pattaya, Thailand, took a bizarre and unfortunate turn when he fell from his hotel balcony in the early hours of November 4, 2024. Paul Hadfield, a 51-year-old man, reportedly from Blackburn, Lancashire, was found naked and covered in excrement after plummeting through the ceiling of an internet café below.
According to reports, the man, believed to be extremely drunk, had returned to his room at The Freelancer Hotel late in the night. Hotel staff heard groans and banging noises coming from the room but thought little of it at the time.
It wasn’t until the man’s legs crashed through the ceiling that they realized something was wrong.
The Shocked Gamers’ Perspective
The chaotic scene unfolded in an internet café, which was filled with gamers at the time. Somrak Senso, one of the witnesses, recalled hearing the initial thud and dismissing it. “I didn’t think much of it,” he said.
But soon after, another thud followed, and the ceiling began to crack. “Then, I saw legs coming through right above my head,” Somrak continued.
Panic set in, and the café customers quickly alerted the staff. As the man’s legs dangled through the ceiling, the players were left in disbelief at the bizarre scene unfolding above them.
The smell was overwhelming, and one gamer even thought it was due to a broken water pipe. But it soon became clear that something far stranger had occurred.
A Disturbing Discovery in the Hotel Room
After rescuing the man from the café, emergency responders found him in a dazed state, struggling to speak coherently. Wrapped in a blanket, he was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and to recover from his heavy intoxication.
However, the shocking scene didn’t end there.
Police officers later inspected the man’s hotel room, only to be greeted by a disturbing sight—human excrement smeared across the bed, blankets, and floor.
According to Police Lieutenant Thanawee Yarangsee, while the situation was unusual, they found no signs of illegal activity in the room. The lieutenant said, “We have some ideas about what he was doing in the room to make it so dirty, but there was nothing illegal.”
The tourist’s actions, though puzzling, remained his private matter, with authorities leaving him to settle the damages with the hotel.
This unusual incident emphasizes the dangers of excessive drinking, particularly in a city known for its vibrant nightlife. The 51-year-old’s fall was a tragic accident, and authorities are now investigating the circumstances surrounding it.
