Late-Night Clinic Visit Turns Frustrating

A Malaysian doctor shared a challenging encounter with a patient who insisted on taking medication suggested by ChatGPT, instead of following professional medical advice.

The patient, a foreign male, visited Dr Rusydina’s clinic, requesting a specific injection and antibiotic without paying for a consultation.

“He didn’t want to consult. He just wanted to pay for the medicine and injection,” Dr Rusydina recalled, explaining that antibiotics cannot be safely prescribed without a proper medical assessment.

Symptoms Finally Revealed

During the consultation, the patient revealed that he had been experiencing discharge from his genitals for several months.

He was then diagnosed with gonorrhea, a common sexually transmitted disease (STD), and emphasized the need for sexual partners to be treated to prevent reinfection.

Despite the doctor’s explanation, the patient rejected her recommended prescription and insisted on using the antibiotic suggested by ChatGPT.

AI as a Learning Tool, Not a Replacement

Dr Rusydina stated that while AI tools like ChatGPT can be useful for learning, they are assistants, not substitutes for professional medical expertise.

“We went through medical school, studied textbooks, and passed exams long before ChatGPT existed,” she said.

She further advised that AI-generated advice should always be verified, as it may not always be accurate or safe for direct treatment.

Netizens Reaction

The video attracted mixed reactions from viewers, with many expressing concern over people placing too much trust in AI for serious matters.

One person commented that it was worrying to see people depending heavily on ChatGPT, even to the point of asking it questions about religious rulings.

Another viewer, who works as a medical receptionist in Australia, shared a similar experience. They said younger patients often argue with doctors after reading ChatGPT’s advice, insisting on specific medication and refusing proper consultation.

“If there are side effects, they’ll start blaming the doctor and clinic. Worst case, they even threaten to sue,” the commenter noted.

Some took the chance to joke about the situation.

One user said they once visited a clinic where the doctor themselves looked up their symptoms on ChatGPT, adding a string of laughter.

Another sarcastically asked why the patient didn’t just get the medicine directly from ChatGPT.
