Singaporeans are calling for action to be taken against a man who abuses a parrot repeatedly in what appears to be a livestream.
Man abuses lovebird in Video
At one portion of the video, the abuser claimed to be working at “bird park” and asked his audience to “shut the fuck up“. This portion relating to working at the bird park is likely to be false.
This videos were first published by one Mikail Yip on Facebook at 8:31pm on 18 December 2024. In his caption, Mikail stated that he was going to “report him for abuse“. Mikail’s post was subsequently reshared to a popular Facebook Group, ‘Complaint Singapore’ where it attracted more than 50 comments.
In the comment section, Jas Reqoqo shared that her report to SPCA about the incident was escalated to the AVS.
SPCA thanked Jas for her vigilance in looking out for vulnerable animals. SPCA forwarded the case to AVS as SPCA does not have enforcement authority.
Many in the comments section expressed outrage and disgust over the abuser’s cruel actions towards the lovebird.
The Parrot Society Singapore also appealed for information and encouraged those with relevant information to lodge reports to NParks.
“Lovebird is distressed and may have health issues” – Parrot Society Singapore
In the two clips, performed a number of abusive acts on the lovebird.
In one clip, he can be seen restraining the bird in one hand. The bird could not move or protect itself. While the bird was immobile in his fist, he used his other hand to flick the bird’s beak in a forceful manner.
The Parrot Society Singapore, which has since reported the incident to the authorities, shared with Wake Up Singapore that parrots’ beaks are very sensitive with many nerve endings. Thus, hitting them on the beak can cause them a lot of pain.
In another clip, the abuser traps the lovebird in a small coke glass while placing a loud speaker directly over the opening of the glass. He also exhales cigarette smoke directly into the glass where the lovebird is trapped.
“Parrots have sensitive and efficient respiratory systems, and any hazardous substances like cigarette smoke, incense and even air fresheners can cause them to develop respiratory issues quickly.” – Parrot Society Singapore
In the video where the lovebird is trapped in the Coke glass, the lovebird closed its eyes frequently while standing on alert.
This, according to the Parrot Society, is a potential and concerning sign of distress.
Parrots do not always show signs of discomfort or pain unless it has become quite severe. We have noted that the lovebird in the video appears to be not very active, and is closing its eyes frequently while standing on alert, so we are concerned that it is in distress

Wake Up Singapore understands that the Parrot Society has since reported the incident to the relevant authorities.
