Paratroopers undergo rigorous training to execute precise and controlled landings, even in challenging conditions. During military exercises, safety protocols are meticulously followed to minimize risks to both personnel and the public.
However, unpredictable factors such as sudden wind changes can sometimes lead to unexpected outcomes.
Collided with Motorcyclist During Landing
This was the case in Malacca on Sunday, February 16, when a paratrooper collided with a motorcyclist after a sudden wind shift pushed him off course during a military training exercise.
The incident in Tanjung Bidara was caught on camera and has since gone viral on social media.
Wind Shift Causes Paratrooper to Drift Off Course
According to the Malaysian Armed Forces, the accident happened during the Eagle Swift Free Fall parachute exercise.
Corporal Mohd Zahier Zainol Abidin from the 18th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment was the sixth jumper in the third sortie, NST reported.
A widely shared 24-second video shows the paratrooper descending before colliding with a motorcyclist, knocking them off the bike.
The sudden wind shift caused him to drift off course as he neared the landing zone at Terendak Camp, leading to the unintended collision.
Motorcyclist Left Before Giving Details
The recovery team at the landing site checked on both individuals. According to Free Malaysia Today (FMT), the motorcyclist was unhurt but left in a rush before providing any information.
The paratrooper sustained minor injuries and was taken to the 94th Armed Forces Hospital at Terendak Camp for a check-up.
No Serious Injuries Reported
Despite the collision, no serious injuries were reported. The army stated that all necessary safety measures were in place and attributed the incident to sudden weather changes.
The motorcyclist’s identity remains unknown as they left before authorities could gather details.
Netizens React
The video gained traction online, with many jokingly suggesting that the paratrooper and the motorcyclist should just get married. Some commenters found the incident amusing, offering lighthearted takes on the situation.
One user humorously suggested that the situation was so convenient, that they might as well get married on the spot.
“Fell at the mosque, and if the marriage registrar was there… Hahh… Just get married right away… Makes things easier, right?”
One user playfully turned the incident into a romantic story, likening it to a fated love story with a humorous twist.
“That lady wasn’t wearing a helmet. Thank God it wasn’t too bad. If they’re meant to be… That’s how it is, dear. That’s how I met your mom. My soulmate fell from the sky.”
One commenter captured mixed emotions, unsure whether to react with sympathy or amusement.
“Don’t know whether to feel sorry or to laugh.”
Another commenter offered a darker yet still lighthearted take, highlighting the paratrooper’s narrow escape from danger.
“Lucky he didn’t land on the cables. Otherwise, he’d be a burnt offering from God.”
