Dating isn’t cheap, and you’re probably tired of the same old cafe hopping and movies routine. If you’re looking to switch it up in 2024 with your boo, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) has organised a free outdoor scavenger hunt you can take your partner on!
It’s perfect for dates, whether you’re looking to bring out your competitive side or simply enjoy Singapore’s sights together. It’s also great for a small get-together with family and friends, as there can be up to 5 players in a team.

It’s called The Paths That Shape Us, and it’s a scavenger hunt-style game taking players across a gamified trail in Tiong Bahru and Redhill through walking and public transport. The whole game takes about 2 hours, but that can be faster or longer depending on how you play!
Players will be guided by chatbots Void Deck Cat and Ah Seng via WhatsApp, who will provide puzzles and clues. The answers to these can be found in pieces of art, signboards, or landmarks along your journey. If you’re really lost on a puzzle, you can take the easy way out by asking Ah Seng for another clue or skipping the puzzle altogether.

As you solve these clues, the guides will teach you about the history of the neighbourhood you’re currently in and introduce you to local businesses and hidden gems.
Earlier, we mentioned that there’s a competitive edge to the game. That’s because LTA will be awarding the fastest 15 teams a limited edition Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) Lego set, which is a perfect gift for any train or Lego enthusiast in your life!

If you’re not gunning for the prize, then the game is a great excuse to find a new restaurant or cafe to rest your feet at halfway through the journey. However, the organisers hint that the game will guide you to some ‘makan’ (Translation: eating) spots, so don’t fill yourself up too much before you reach that part of the game.
Along with learning about Singapore’s history, the game will also show players how LTA has shaped Singapore into a commuter’s dream, putting the country on the map for one of the best public transport systems in the world.
If you’re interested in learning more after finishing the game, you can also stop by the free interactive exhibits at Singapore Mobility Gallery. The exhibits are open on weekdays from 9:30AM to 5:00PM, excluding public holidays. These exhibits are tailored for children, but that doesn’t mean adults can’t learn something too!

The game is available until 29 February 2024.
