Three cyclists from Gualeguaychu, in Argentina’s Entre Rios Province, have reached Mexico City as part of a 14,000-kilometre journey to the United States to watch Argentina at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Miguel Silio, Yamandu Martinez and Vicente Conculini set off on August 16, 2025, and have since crossed 16 countries. They aim to arrive in Kansas City in time for Argentina’s opening match against Algeria on June 16.

Footage shows the trio cycling through Mexico City, passing landmarks including the Angel of Independence along Paseo de la Reforma.

“There are three of us from different generations, between 29 and 56 years old, in my case,” Silio said. “The truth is that it has been a journey of great companionship, of discovering the continent with all its facets.”

He also sent a message to Argentine football icon Lionel Messi.

“Messi, we are on our way there. Put some water on to heat for mate,” Silio said. “In two months, we will be knocking on your door.”

Conculini described the challenges faced along the route, including security concerns and political tensions in parts of Latin America, including the capture of drug trafficker ‘El Mencho’.

“We have suffered some setbacks. Well, in Ecuador, on the coast of Ecuador, due to political issues, also in the south of Colombia and well, in Mexico, a month ago,” he said.

Their route has taken them through countries including Uruguay, Brazil, Paraguay, Bolivia and Peru, with the cyclists navigating harsh weather conditions and long distances.

They now plan to enter the United States, their 17th country, to support Argentina as it begins its title defence following victory at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
