Dropped Out, Lost Friends, Struggled Alone—Singapore Youth’s Mental Health Story
Facebook

A young man from Singapore’s story of his mental struggle and ups and downs in life has sparked discussion on social media. A few years ago, he said he lost himself in family pressure, mental instability and uncertainty about his future. According to him, he was forced to stop his education midway due to various conflicts surrounding his family and personal decisions.

While his peers were moving forward in national service or university, he started working part-time. The breakdown of friendships and recurring mental health problems made him even more lonely. However, with time, he started focusing on himself and tried to look at life anew.

The Shock of his Academic Life

The young man said that he dropped out of his studies in the first year of junior college. Later, he completed an associate’s diploma, but he still could not obtain a university degree. At that time, people around him asked him various questions about his future plans.

He feels that these questions often increased his mental stress. Nevertheless, he decided to gradually move forward at his own pace. According to him, everyone’s life path is different, and it is important to respect that.

During Loneliness

He withdrew a lot due to the distance he had with his family and friends. Memories of his school life also became vague or uncomfortable for him at times. He said that he sometimes experienced nightmares or anxiety.

However, at the same time, he realized that being alone is not always negative. Loneliness gave him the opportunity to understand his feelings. Through this, he continued to try to find his own identity.

Focus on Himself

To manage his stress, he started devoting time to activities like traveling, going to cafes, and exercising. He mentioned that these habits gave him some relief. At the same time, he said that the fear of falling behind in the race for success in society often makes people restless. News of recent accidents, job losses, or global conflicts also weighed on his mind.

Therefore, he realized the importance of living according to his wishes. According to him, being honest with himself is important for mental well-being.

Netizens’ Reactions

Many people on social media praised his courage and open sharing of experiences. Some have suggested that people on social media tend to focus on the happy side of things, while everyone struggles in real life. Others have suggested that social media use can be reduced if necessary to avoid negative effects.

Some users believe that the last five years have been difficult for him, but the fact that he has taken small steps forward is proof of his determination. Many have encouraged him and said that they support him on his path.
