Brave Man Saves Drowning Dog During Manipur Floods

Courage Shines in Midst of Deadly Floods

On 1 June, as floods ravaged Manipur, one man’s bravery stood out. A viral video shows him jumping into raging waters to save a struggling dog.

A bystander recorded the heart-stopping rescue in the flood-stricken Northeast Indian state, where landslides, overflowing rivers, and mass evacuations have left devastation in their wake.

Heroic Moment Goes Viral

Shared widely on social media, the clip shows the man fighting strong currents to reach the terrified dog, which was clinging to a rock.

Without any safety gear, he pushed through the swirling flood, scooped up the animal, and carried it to safety.

Onlookers cheered as the man and the unharmed dog made it back to dry land.

Netizens praised the rescuer, thought to be from the Meitei community, calling him a “real-life hero” and a beacon of hope. Thousands applauded his selflessness, saying his actions highlight humanity’s kindness even in times of crisis.

Manipur’s Flood Disaster Worsens

While the rescue brought hope, Manipur’s overall situation remains grim. Heavy weekend rains triggered chaos, with rivers surging past danger marks. Within just 24 hours, floodwaters damaged 1,401 homes, and disaster teams rescued 55 people, moving them to relief shelters.

Landslides wreaked havoc in 33 areas statewide, prompting the Governor to prolong school shutdowns across Imphal East, Imphal West, and sections of Senapati district. Meanwhile, Assam grapples with intense flooding as rising waters inundate 19 districts. In the Barak Valley, Silchar bore the brunt of the downpour, receiving a staggering 42 cm of rainfall within just 24 hours.

A Glimmer of Hope in Dark Times

As Manipur battles nature’s fury and ongoing hardships, the dog’s rescue has touched many. The moment provided a rare spark of hope amid fear, loss, and displacement.

Through the chaos, one man’s fearless compassion reminded the world that even in the toughest times, humanity prevails.
