On the morning of 13 November 2024, a man in his 50s confessed to a tragic secret he had kept for over three years: he had murdered his elderly mother in 2021 and kept her body hidden in a freezer. The man’s confession came after he placed a call to emergency services around 9 a.m., seeking assistance for his deteriorating health.
However, when police arrived, they were faced with far more than a routine medical call at the man’s home on Jalan Hujan Abu 6, Taman OUG, Malaysia.
According to the suspect, the killing was driven by a personal motive: he reportedly wanted to “send” his mother to heaven.
After his confession, officers searched the home and found the body. The victim is believed to have been beaten before being wrapped in a towel and plastic sheets and then placed in the freezer.
Years of Secrecy and Financial Struggle
Sources close to the investigation reported that the man had been harboring this dark secret since March 2021. His decision to confess came as he struggled with declining health and depleted savings. The man was reportedly overwhelmed by chronic illness and financial hardship, factors that may have influenced his choice to come forward after years of silence.
The victim, who lived separately, had frequently visited her son, especially during Malaysia’s Movement Control Order (MCO) during the COVID-19 period, when he was living alone.
Police Launch Murder Investigation
Following his confession, the suspect was immediately taken into custody. Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa confirmed the arrest, adding that the case is now being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which addresses the crime of murder.
Additionally, the victim’s body has been sent to the University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) for a post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
Neighbour’s Shock
The neighborhood, typically quiet and close-knit, has been left in shock following this incident. According to NST, one neighbor said he hadn’t seen the victim since the early pandemic lockdown and had assumed she’d simply returned to her residence.
Authorities have urged anyone with information related to the case to contact their local police station or the Kuala Lumpur police hotline at 03-2115 9999 or visit the nearest police station.
