A man in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, is seeking compensation after a full-body massage at a foot spa was followed by intense groin pain and a surprising medical diagnosis.

The man, surnamed Du, visited a local foot spa and spent 598 yuan (around S$106) for a full-body massage.
Uncomfortable After Massage
According to HK01, Du experienced severe discomfort in his lower body the next day and found walking difficult.
Concerned, he went to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with a left-sided epididymal head cyst.
“I Couldn’t Even Walk”
Du believes the massage may have triggered the condition.
He recalled that during the session, the massage therapist pressed on his groin area, which made him slightly uncomfortable at the time.
“At the time, the masseur did press on my groin area. I felt a bit uncomfortable but didn’t think much of it. I didn’t expect it to get this bad the next day. I couldn’t even walk.”
Du is now seeking 50,000 yuan (around S$8,923) in compensation from the spa, reportedly to cover medical costs and lost income.
Spa Disputes Cause, Questions Compensation Amount
In response to the claim, the foot spa acknowledged that it had already paid for Du’s medical expenses and expressed a willingness to resolve the issue through reasonable discussion.

However, it questioned the 50,000 yuan compensation request, pointing out that epididymal cysts can have multiple causes and that doctors did not confirm it was linked to the massage.
Spa Not Denying Responsibility
The spa clarified it was not denying responsibility outright but believed any payout should reflect the facts of the case, arguing the amount was too high without clear medical evidence.
What is an Epididymal Cyst?
An epididymal cyst is a fluid-filled, non-cancerous lump that forms in the epididymis (the tube behind the testicle that stores sperm).
According to Patient.info, these cysts are usually painless and do not affect urination or ejaculation.
Surgery is rarely needed unless the cyst causes pain or grows large.
In Du’s case, the cyst caused severe groin discomfort and mobility issues, though reports did not mention any surgery, suggesting it was treated without an operation.
Unclear Cause, No Medical Conclusion
While Du’s symptoms developed shortly after the massage, doctors did not confirm a direct connection between the massage and the cyst.
Given the lack of medical certainty, the case remains unresolved, with both sides continuing to negotiate.
As of now, no legal action has been reported.
