A day meant for celebration turned into an emergency in Liverpool on Monday, May 26, 2025, when a car drove into a crowd gathered for Liverpool FC’s Premier League trophy parade.
The incident took place on Water Street, not long after the team’s open-top bus had passed through. The crash happened after a city-wide celebration marking Liverpool FC’s latest Premier League title win.
Crowd Reaction and Police Response
Once the vehicle stopped, some bystanders began damaging the car, leading police to step in.

Officers worked quickly to manage the situation and protect those at the scene.

Earlier in the day, confusion in the city centre had been reported due to dense crowds and unclear signage, contributing to general disorder during the event, according to Reuters

Following this, a 53-year-old white British man from Liverpool, believed to have acted alone, was taken into custody by Merseyside Police.
Authorities confirmed they are not treating the collision as a terrorist act and stated that no one else is being sought in relation to the event.

Held on Suspicion of Attempted Murder
In the latest update by the BBC, police said the man is now being held on suspicion of attempted murder. Police have also charged him with dangerous driving and driving under the influence of drugs.
Investigations remain ongoing.
Liverpool FC and Officials Address the Incident
Liverpool FC released a statement on X, saying the club was in contact with Merseyside Police and extended its thoughts to those affected.
The statement also confirmed the club’s ongoing support for emergency services and local authorities.
