Malaysian teens film themselves committing an armed break-in and robbery

Photos screencapped from video by Astro Awani

Earlier this week, three secondary school boys aged 14 and 15 were arrested for a break-in and robbery. They filmed their crime, and the video found its way to Astro Awani through an undisclosed source.

The police actually apprehended the boys through surveillance footage and not the released video, but the video confirms their involvement as it shows them breaking in and threatening the robbery victim. Neither the perpetrators’ faces nor the victim’s face were obscured in the video.

The victim is a foreigner. The boys broke into his home, which is located in Taman Connaught, Cheras (southeast Kuala Lumpur), and held him at knifepoint.

During this vulnerable moment, the victim can be seen shaking in fear and begging to be released. He was allegedly robbed of RM500 but luckily sustained no physical injuries from the incident.

The boys were arrested at their school soon after the crime was committed. The police found that none of them had prior criminal histories, which is unsurprising considering how much evidence they left behind.

Cheras deputy police chief Ridzuan Khalid said the case would be investigated under Sections 395/397 of the Penal Code for gang robbery. The boys are currently in custody and are allowed to be held until January 14th while the police investigate.

The video has attracted outraged reactions from netizens, with many expressing how the boys are probably not the sharpest knives in the drawer. One even lamented that he used to want to become a police officer to stop the evil criminals he saw in movies, but after learning that these are the kinds of criminals Malaysia has to offer, he lost interest.
