When hot water is unavailable, students often have to get creative. This was the case for a university student at the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), who found an unusual solution: using a hot iron to cook instant noodles.
A Creative Culinary Solution
In a video shared by TikTok user @123abcdef.u, the student demonstrated his resourceful method. The clip shows him pouring water from a plastic cup and a water bottle onto a heated iron, generating steam which he then directed into a bowl of instant noodles. This unconventional technique cooked the noodles in just three minutes.
Lack of Hot Water and Safety First
The student explained that he resorted to this method due to the unavailability of hot water in his hostel. His caption on TikTok humorously reads, “Trying to save money.”
He assured viewers that the iron he used was new and rust-free, stressing the importance of using clean equipment to avoid any health hazards. While his method proved effective, he advised others to be cautious if they decided to try this approach themselves.
“Btw, this is a new iron. Don’t use a rusted iron.”
Viral Sensation
The video quickly went viral, amassing up to 2.8 million views and capturing the imagination of many. The comments section was filled with a mix of amusement and admiration for the student’s creativity. While some raised health concerns too.
Some viewers praised him while sarcastically referencing “UPNM” in their comments. A case from 2017, where Zulfarhan, a UPNM student, was tragically tortured to death with a hot steam iron by his peers.
A user commented, “UPNM is shaking watching this.”
Other viewers wondered where his heater was to which he replied, “Currently shipping.”
While another commented that it is not that difficult to bring a heater into the dorm.
Amongst all, one viewer curiously asked how long it took him to soak the noodles.
