A Malaysian man recently turned heads at The Mines Shopping Mall in Seri Kembangan when he decided to go fishing inside the indoor canal. A TikTok video uploaded by @/hanzazkhan captured the man casually casting a fishing rod into the mall’s water feature.
At the same time, a security guard stood nearby, repeatedly trying to get him to stop. Despite the warnings, the man seemed unbothered and continued his efforts as a small crowd of amused shoppers gathered to watch.
Additionally, two other onlookers—a man and a woman—stood nearby, amused by the situation as the man ignored the security guard’s warnings. Another passerby even joined in, standing next to him to see if he had managed to catch any fish
Moving on, but Not Leaving
The video, which quickly went viral, showed the man leaning over the railing as the guard gestured for him to cease fishing. In an updated video, instead of leaving the area as requested, he merely relocated to another spot a few meters down the canal and resumed his fishing attempts.
The security guard followed him but seemed resigned to the situation, allowing the scene to unfold while looking on in apparent frustration.
Keeping It Light-Hearted
Throughout the incident, the man seemed to take the situation in stride, sharing a laugh with another individual wearing a cap who accompanied him. Additionally, it remains unclear whether he was formally asked to exit the premises or simply decided to call it a day.
Comments and Reactions
Ever since the video went viral, this action had netizens in the comments in stitches.
One user jokingly pointed out that, despite having the option to fish at the nearby lake, the man boldly chose to cast his line inside the mall instead, applauding his daring choice.
“Oh dear… You can’t even fish at the lake behind. Now you are fishing in The Mines. So brave.”
Another speculated that the temptation of seeing the fish swimming around was too much for him, playfully suggesting that he might have been so tempted by the sight that he decided to grab his fishing rod.
“Maybe he couldn’t resist seeing the fish playing around there… hahahaha… He was so tempted that he went to get his fishing rod.”
Some commenters found the situation relatable, with one pointing out that the mall’s canal could become the perfect pastime for husbands waiting for their wives to shop for hours, even if it meant fishing late into the night.
“Bro, now I have a reason to wait for my wife for hours in Watson’s. I’ll come fish here later, bro. Even if my wife shops all night, it’s fine.
Another echoed this sentiment, suggesting that if fishing were allowed, husbands wouldn’t mind the long wait while their wives shopped.
“If fishing is allowed… I believe that husbands waiting for their wives to shop for 3-4 hours would have no problem.”
Adding a different perspective, one user quipped that security shouldn’t stop the man, as his antics could serve as free marketing for the mall, attracting husbands who dread lengthy shopping trips.
“Actually, security shouldn’t stop him because this is also free marketing for the mall. After this, husbands won’t worry about waiting too long if they bring their wives shopping.”
