A 14-year-old boy allegedly stabbed a 16-year-old girl to death at Petaling Jaya’s SMK Bandar Utama Damansara 4 on the morning of 14 October. The attack happened around 9:10 a.m., leaving the school community in shock.

According to reports, the victim cried for help near a classroom. A teacher rushed over but arrived too late. The girl was declared dead at the scene, with multiple stab wounds confirmed in a post-mortem. The exact number of injuries will be released once the full report is finalized.
Weapons Bought Online
Selangor Police Chief Shazeli Kahar confirmed the boy had purchased the weapons online some time ago. “Initial investigations found that the suspect bought the weapons online. He had the weapons for some time,” Shazeli said. Police recovered two sharp objects—a knife and a karambit—and are still investigating which platform the suspect used.

Preliminary investigations suggest the boy and the girl had no prior interactions. However, a report indicated that the stabbing took place after the boy had allegedly confessed feelings for the girl. Shazeli added, “It is believed that emotional factors and social media are among the reasons for the suspect’s behaviour,” though it’s still unclear if unrequited feelings were involved.
Eyewitnesses Describe Chilling Scene
A student who witnessed the incident described the suspect entering a classroom with blood on his clothes and brandishing a sharp weapon.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has called on the public to refrain from posting photos or videos of the incident online, emphasizing that sharing such content can compromise the privacy of minors and spread misinformation. The commission warned that doing so is not only unethical but also a criminal offence.

Following the incident, the school principal was removed to ensure investigations proceed without disruption. The Education Ministry temporarily reassigned the school’s administration to the District Education Office and deployed counsellors to provide support to traumatised students, staff, and teachers.
Classes continue as normal, but a planned Form 5 graduation ceremony was called off.
Legal Action and Ongoing Investigation
The boy, a Form Two student, has been arrested under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. Authorities have recorded statements from 57 witnesses, including students, teachers, and family members.
Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail and Petaling Jaya District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Shamsudin Mamat confirmed that no bullying was involved.

Investigations are exploring emotional, social, and environmental factors leading to the attack.
Authorities also warned the public against sharing photos or videos of the incident, citing the Child Act 2001, which strictly protects the identities of minors in criminal cases.
Prime Minister Speaks Out on Social Media
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim weighed in, linking social media misuse to rising school violence. “The responsibility of course goes back to parents and schools, but almost all of these issues stem from the (unchecked) use of mobile phones and social media,” he said.

He added, “So maybe today or tomorrow, I will instruct the Cabinet to take stern action on this matter. It will definitely trigger mixed reactions but there must be action taken on the use of social media.”
The stabbing follows other incidents involving school students over the past week, including gang-related assaults in Melaka. The suspect in Bandar Utama has been remanded for seven days.
Wider Implications
This tragic case highlights the dangers of unchecked social media, emotional stress, and easy access to weapons among teens. Authorities are considering stricter school security measures, preventive programs, and better mental health support to prevent more tragedies.
As investigations continue, Malaysia faces hard questions about youth violence, parental oversight, and the responsibilities of schools in keeping students safe.
