Police Begin Search for Priest After Allegation at Sepang Temple
The Malaysian police have launched a manhunt for a Hindu temple priest who allegedly molested a woman during a ritual.
The incident is reported to have taken place on June 21, 2025, at a temple in Bandar Baru Salak Tinggi, located in Sepang, Selangor.
Suspect Identified as Stand-In Priest
According to Free Malaysia Today, the suspect is an Indian national who was temporarily filling in as a substitute priest.
The temple’s main priest was abroad at the time of the incident.
Police Confirm Report and Launch Criminal Investigation
Sepang District Police Chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman confirmed that the 27-year-old woman filed a police report on July 4, 2025. They received a report at 8.15 p.m.

According to Malay Mail, Sepang District Police Chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman stated, “The suspect’s modus operandi was allegedly to sprinkle holy water on the victim’s face and body before proceeding to molest her.”
The case is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which covers criminal force with intent to outrage modesty. If found guilty, the offender could face up to 10 years in prison, a fine, whipping, or any combination of these penalties.
The Victim Shared Her Experience in an Instagram Post
On Monday, July 7, local actress and TV host Lishalliny Kanaran posted a detailed and emotional account of the incident on Instagram.

She explained that she had been attending the temple regularly in recent weeks as part of her spiritual journey.
Went to The Temple Alone, Without Her Mother
In her post, Lishalliny shared that she went to the temple alone on June 21, as her mother was in India.
She said the substitute priest had previously guided her during rituals, as she was still learning the customs.
According to her, the priest approached her during her prayers and told her he had a ‘protective string’ for blessings.
He then asked her to meet him after her prayers.
She alleged that once they were alone, he sprinkled water on her face and body, told her to remove her clothing, which she refused, and then proceeded to touch her inappropriately.
She Claims Efforts Were Made to Silence Her
Lishalliny claimed individuals associated with the temple attempted to prevent her from speaking out about what had happened.
“Don’t post anything online. If you do, it’ll be your fault. You’ll be blamed.”

She emphasized that her intention was not to gain sympathy but to support other survivors of abuse.
Emotional Aftermath Still Ongoing
Lishalliny also shared the emotional toll the incident has had on her since it occurred.

She said she is struggling with overwhelming feelings of pain, fear, shame, and confusion.
Suspect Reportedly Fled Before He Could Be Confronted
According to Lishalliny, by the time she and her family returned to the temple to confront the priest, he had already fled the scene.
Police have since been working to locate the suspect.
Public Urged to Assist With Investigation
Authorities are urging anyone with information about the suspect’s whereabouts to contact Inspector Sathiyan Balrajoo or the Sepang District Police Headquarters.
Police have also advised the public not to incite racial or religious tensions over the case.
