Kate Winslet is currently in talks to star in the “Lord of the Rings” prequel.
The actress, who was seen most recently in “Avatar: Fire and Ash,” may be joining Andy Serkis in “The Hunt for Gollum”. Serkis is directing the pic and returning as the titular creature.

It is noted that Warner Bros. has yet to confirm the actors of the movie, though it was rumored that Ian McKellen and Elijah Wood are reprising their roles as Gandalf and Frodo Baggins.

The project is being produced by Peter Jackson, who helmed the original trilogy, alongside Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. Jackson and Winslet previously collaborated on 1994’s “Heavenly Creatures.”

“The Hunt for Gollum” is scheduled for a December 2027 release, with the movie reportedly set between the events of “The Hobbit” and “The Fellowship of the Ring.”
