A disturbing video showing a man slashing his own throat at a mamak shop in Johor Bahru has been circulating on social media.
The 12-second clip, shared by X user @/Updateinfo111, shows the man holding a meat cleaver to his throat while shouting.
In another video, he was seen on the ground, writhing in pain with blood pooling around him. A red cloth was wrapped around his neck presumably in an attempt to stop the bleeding.
Incident Followed Argument With Wife
The incident occurred early Tuesday morning (March 18, 2025) at a restaurant in Danga Bay, Johor Bahru.
According to Sinar Harian, the 27-year-old man’s actions were allegedly triggered by an argument with his wife.
Johor Bahru Selatan police chief Raub Selamat stated that authorities received a report about the incident at 12:25 a.m. after being alerted by an auxiliary police officer at the scene.
“Preliminary investigations found that the man suffered the injury due to emotional distress following a disagreement with his wife,” Raub said in a statement on Wednesday (March 19, 2025).
Man in Critical Condition
The man was rushed to Sultanah Aminah Hospital, where he is currently being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU). His condition remains critical.
Police have advised the public to resolve conflicts peacefully and avoid taking extreme actions during disputes.
