Over 1,600 People Displaced as Floodwaters Rise
Floods have begun affecting Johor following continuous heavy rain since March 19. As of 2 PM on March 20, four districts—Johor Bahru, Kota Tinggi, Kulai, and Pontian—have recorded a total of 1,691 evacuees from 471 families who have been forced to relocate to 22 temporary relief centers (PPS), according to Media Digital Johor.

According to the State Disaster Management Committee (JPBN) chairman, Tan Sri Dr. Azmi Rohani, the number of evacuees had earlier increased to 1,048 from 308 families by noon today, marking a rise from 893 evacuees from 257 families recorded at 8 AM.

Heavy Rain Since March 19 Triggers Flooding
- Johor Bahru remains the worst-hit district, with 674 evacuees from 202 families relocated to six PPS.
- Kota Tinggi follows with 431 evacuees.
- Pontian has recorded 297 evacuees,
- while Kulai has 289 evacuees, according to The Star.

Authorities have also warned of ongoing rainfall, with the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) issuing a heavy rain warning for several districts, including Johor Bahru, Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, and Kota Tinggi.
The warning is in effect until March 21.
Rising River Levels and Affected Areas
Several rivers have exceeded the danger level, including Sungai Siam in Kulai, which recorded a water level of 20.85 meters.
In Johor Bahru, two sections of the Skudai River have also surpassed danger levels, measuring 1.01 meters and 4.24 meters respectively, Bernama reports.
According to reports, flooded areas in Pontian include:
- Kampung Paya Embun (Paya Embun Village),
- Kampung Pak Karib (Pak Karib Village),
- Kampung Melayu Raya (Melayu Raya Village),
- Kampung Seri Meranti (Seri Meranti Village),
- and Kampung Parit Sikom (Parit Sikom Village), with 80 evacuees moved to designated relief centers.
Azmi also stated that 10 districts in Johor are expected to experience rain this morning.
