Jimmy Kimmel didn’t pull any punches during his latest opening monologue after Donald Trump reportedly accepted a Nobel Peace Prize medal that wasn’t actually meant for him.

Taking the stage on Thursday night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, the late-night host zeroed in on the bizarre exchange between Trump and the real 2025 Nobel Peace Prize recipient, María Machado of the Venezuelan opposition. Kimmel managed to break down the whole awkward encounter with a sharp, comedic edge that had the audience in stitches right out of the gate.
A Joke That Stole the Spotlight
Kimmel compared Trump holding the Nobel medal to a baby being given a pacifier. He joked that it is rare to see a president take a prize directly from someone else. According to Kimmel, Trump looked pleased, as if he had been waiting a long time for the attention. The audience reacted loudly as Kimmel continued to exaggerate the scene for comedic effect.

Machado had received the Nobel Peace Prize for her leadership against former Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro. She had praised Trump for his actions related to Venezuela, which led to their meeting. However, Kimmel pointed out that despite handing over the medal, Machado did not receive a public endorsement from Trump afterward.
A Gift Bag and a Punchline
Kimmel didn’t hold back, likening the sight of Trump clutching the Nobel medal to a fussy baby finally getting a pacifier. The host quipped that it’s not every day a president is caught red-handed taking a prize straight from someone else’s grasp.
By Kimmel’s account, Trump looked like the cat that got the cream, appearing visibly thrilled to finally bask in that specific kind of spotlight.

The crowd was absolutely roaring as the monologue leaned into the absurdity of the moment, stretching the truth for the sake of a good laugh.

On a more serious note, Machado had actually earned the Nobel Peace Prize for her relentless push against Nicolás Maduro’s regime in Venezuela. Their paths crossed because she had been vocal in her praise for Trump’s stance on her home country. Yet, Kimmel was quick to highlight a bit of a lopsided trade: despite Machado literally handing over the hardware, she didn’t exactly walk away with a public stamp of approval or a formal endorsement from the former president.
Comedy Meets Controversy
Kimmel added a condition to his offer. He said Trump could have one or all of the trophies only if he agreed to pull ICE agents out of Minneapolis. This comment referred to recent anger over immigration enforcement actions in the city, which followed a deadly shooting involving an ICE agent. Protests have since spread, with local leaders asking federal agents to leave.

As the monologue ended, Kimmel shifted to a darker tone. He criticized Trump’s recent comments about elections and warned about strong language used against political opponents. The segment mixed humor with concern, leaving the audience laughing but also thinking as the show moved on.
