Footage Shows Weapons Stored Inside Underground Tunnel

Iran has released footage showing what it says is a large underground facility used to store drones and missiles, following reported joint airstrikes carried out by the United States and Israel.

The video, published on March 2 by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) through state media, shows a long tunnel lined with military equipment. Rows of triangular-shaped drones resembling Iran’s domestically produced Shahed-136 drones appear positioned along the passageway.

Missile launchers carrying four missiles each are also seen placed in standby mode inside the tunnel.

The video also includes scenes showing drones and missiles being launched, though independent verification of when or where the footage was recorded has not been confirmed.

According to international media reports, weapons stockpiles are typically kept confidential during active conflicts, making the public release of such footage notable.

Released Amid Ongoing Regional Escalation

Reports from outlets including Iran’s Fars News Agency said the footage was released after recent US-Israel airstrikes targeting Iranian positions.

Drones remain a key component of Iran’s military capabilities. Following airstrikes reported on February 28, Iran launched retaliatory attacks using ballistic missiles and drones targeting locations linked to Israel as well as sites in Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Kuwait.

Missile Stockpile Previously Reported

Citing Israeli military estimates, the Financial Times previously reported that Iran fired more than 500 missiles during clashes with Israel in June 2024, with roughly 90 per cent intercepted or destroyed.

The report added that Iran later replenished its ballistic missile inventory and was estimated to possess about 2,500 missiles prior to the latest escalation.
