Malaysia has confirmed that its oil tankers are now allowed to pass safely through the Strait of Hormuz after rising tensions in the region caused concern over global shipping routes. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim shared the update in a televised address, describing the development as a positive step during a difficult period.

Diplomatic Efforts Behind the Move

According to Anwar, direct communication played a key role. He spoke personally with Masoud Pezeshkian to ensure the safety of Malaysian vessels and crew members. As a result, Iran agreed to allow the tankers to continue their journey without further delay.

The Prime Minister also reached out to Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the wider conflict and explore possible paths toward peace. These conversations reflect Malaysia’s active role in regional diplomacy during a tense time.

Rising Tensions in the Region

The situation in West Asia has become increasingly complex after military actions involving the United States and Israel against Iran. In response, Iran has taken steps that affect not only its direct rivals but also neighboring countries and international trade routes.

Anwar explained that Iran feels it has been treated unfairly in past negotiations, making it cautious about accepting new peace proposals without clear guarantees. This has made diplomatic efforts more challenging, as trust remains a major issue.

Impact Beyond Borders

The conflict has already caused serious humanitarian problems. In Lebanon, more than one million people have reportedly lost their homes. At the same time, ongoing issues in Palestine and Gaza continue to worsen, adding further pressure to the region.

For countries like Malaysia, the impact is not direct but still significant. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important oil routes, and any disruption can affect global energy supply and prices.

Malaysia’s Position and Preparedness

Despite these challenges, Malaysia remains in a relatively stable position. Anwar noted that the national energy company, Petronas, has the capacity to manage supply and reduce risks to the country’s energy needs.

He also stressed that Malaysia will continue to support peace efforts while protecting its own economic interests and the safety of its people. Although the country enjoys stability, its strong ties with nations in the Middle East mean it cannot ignore the situation.

As tensions continue, Malaysia’s careful diplomacy and steady approach may help it navigate the uncertainty while keeping its vital trade routes open.
