Who is Dhar Mann?
Dharminder “Dhar” Mann (born May 29, 1984) is a film producer and entrepreneur from the United States. He is best known for Dhar Mann Studios, a video production firm that develops short films for social media sites such as YouTube. The films are aimed towards a youthful audience and usually include an experience that teaches the protagonist a moral lesson.
Workplace scandal and actors’ protest
Dhar Mann, a YouTube celebrity, is under criticism for underpaying his staff. Several performers from his studio recently resorted to TikTok to express their dissatisfaction with their working conditions. This follows Dhar Mann’s refusal to meet with his employees and the firing of employees who questioned him. Netizens have subsequently expressed their outrage on social media.
In February 2023 actors started to complain about bad working conditions and unsustainable pay. Many of the performers protested outside of one of Mann’s studio lots, and the protests were brief. Many performers, according to actor Charles Laughlin, requested a meeting with Mann to discuss their working circumstances, but were denied.
Mann was also accused of terminating actress Jessica Ruth Bell after the meeting was scheduled, according to Laughlin. Laughlin and actor Colin Borden both said that performers who spoke out against the working conditions were fired instantly. Borden reported that several of Mann’s performers were unable to pay their rent.
The screenshot appeared to show an actor being dismissed through an email that stated, “We are contacting to advise you that you are no longer needed for this part, “Jessica,” on this day, February 9, 2023. Thank you very much!”
In a TikTok live, Laughlin also explained:
“A lot of people have been fired previously for speaking out and asking questions and that’s why we decided to come together as a collective and make our voices heard but that seems to have not worked but we’re still here. We’re talking.”
The sensation Colin A Borden
In Dhar Mann’s videos, Colin A Borden is mostly cast as a heroic character who has played a father or a teacher.
He recently took to his official TikTok account and explained that a group of actors attempted to get in touch with Dhar Mann. However, the meetings that were brought forward did not take place.
Borden also revealed that those questioning the studio were instantly fired. He said in the video:
Not a single actor that works at Dhar Mann Studios can afford rent… the studio has continued to expand for some time… and now there are three sound stages in Burbank but things haven’t really gotten better for us… “We’ve been talking to a lot of actors, the trouble is there’s a culture at the studio of, “if you talk, you’re out.” So we decided to come together as a group and talk collectively with our boss Dhar Mann… we learned Saturday there will not be a meeting.”
The actor also stated that there was “some not-so-great stuff” going on inside the studio. He did not, however, address the specifics.
