The incident of a homeless man being thrown into the street by a security guard in front of an Ambank branch in Taman Maluri, Malaysia, has sparked a backlash on social media. The 36-second video on Reddit shows a security guard waking up the man who was sleeping on the sidewalk by spraying him with water from a hose.

Another man then comes and kicks him, throws his belongings, and starts spraying water again. After the video went viral, Ambank expressed deep concern and said that such inhumane behavior is unacceptable in any way.

The bank authorities said that the security guard was not their own employee but an external security service provider. The other person is believed to be a cobbler working nearby, who acted in anger.
Incident Details
The video shows the homeless man lying helplessly on the sidewalk. Suddenly, the female security guard grabs a hose and starts spraying water at him. The man is surprised and sits up and is forced to move away.

Then another man, whom locals believe to be a cobbler, came and kicked him angrily. He threw the man’s belongings and sprayed water again with a pipe, as if to force him to leave the area quickly.

Bank’s Position
Ambank said in a statement that the incident was very sad for them and such behavior is unacceptable under any circumstances. Bank authorities said that even if they are employees of an external security agency, everyone representing them must maintain the highest professionalism.

The bank said that they are fully cooperating with the relevant authorities regarding the incident. It also assured to take strict action to prevent such incidents from happening again in the future. The bank further said that their commitment is to ensure the safety of everyone, no matter who is on the bank premises.
Questions Of Humanity And Fairness
After the incident, many have raised questions—is such behavior towards the homeless a sign of civilization? Many people on social media said that those who insulted the homeless person should remember that it does not take long to change their fate.

Some believe that it is important to teach society to show compassion for the weak. They say that ruthless behavior towards the poor can one day return to their own lives. Some expressed their anger and said that the bank failed to provide proper training to its employees.

Others felt that, not only expressing regret, but that if the bank wanted to prove its humanity, it should provide shelter, clothing, and food for the person. Some reactions also said that AmBank should help the homeless person rebuild his life as compensation.

Many commented that sidewalks are not anyone’s private property, so humanity is also important in their use. Some reminded that respect and kindness are the basic rights of all citizens.
NGO Humanitarian Initiative
NGO worker Tony Lian was deeply moved after watching the video of the incident and realized that it was urgent to help the homeless man. He found the man while walking in the Taman Maluri area and finally found him lying exhausted in front of another bank.

When Lian offered him shelter, the man burst into tears and said he was hungry, tired and homeless. When he was taken to the shelter, he was given food, new clothes and a bed, which he was very happy to receive. Lian added that he would help the man get back to work once he recovered.
