A Devastating Accident
On the evening of 20 October, 38-year-old Malini, a work-permit holder working as a janitor in Singapore, was riding her motorbike home to Johor Bahru after finishing her shift. While making a turn, she collided with a stationary lorry parked by the roadside. The impact flung her off the bike, causing her life-altering injuries.

Malini was rushed to hospital with severe injuries. Her left leg was amputated, and she suffered multiple rib fractures and deep wounds. She now faces one more critical surgery on her right foot to repair a serious injury and begin her long road to recovery.
The Sole Breadwinner for Her Family
Prior to the accident, Malini earned around S$2,000 a month. This helped her support her aging parents, younger sister and 3-year-old nephew back home in Johor Bahru. She was the sole breadwinner of the family, with her income keeping the household afloat.
Malini now faces months of rehabilitation ahead, and with no income, nor savings, her family is struggling to make ends meet. Malini’s sister has been taking care of their parents and child, while faced with mounting expenses. Her sister is a homemaker and single mother.

Now, with months of rehabilitation ahead and no income or savings, her family is struggling to survive. Malini’s sister, who is a homemaker and single mother, has been caring for their parents and child while managing mounting expenses.
Despite everything, Malini remains resilient. She dreams of being able to walk again, to return home and care for her loved ones.
HOME and Ray of Hope Step In
The Humanitarian Organization for Migration Economics (H.O.M.E.) is working with Ray of Hope, a Singapore-based crowdfunding platform, to raise S$24,000. H.O.M.E. has been assisting Malini through its Migrant Worker Helpdesk.

This amount represents one year of her salary and will help cover medical costs, living expenses, and rehabilitation needs as she regains her mobility.
According to the campaign page, more than S$5,500 has been raised so far, but much more support is needed to help Malini rebuild her life with dignity.
