A Malaysian food delivery rider shared his experience of being looked down upon by an elderly woman who questioned his job and education.
Instead of reacting negatively, he responded with a simple but powerful comeback that left her speechless.
Judged For His Job
According to MStar, the rider was making a delivery at a flat when an elderly woman called him over. Thinking she needed help, he approached her politely.
Questioned His Education Level
She first asked if he worked as a full-time delivery rider. When he confirmed, she then questioned his education level.
After he told her that he had only completed his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) or Malaysian Certificate of Education, similar to Singapore’s O-Level (GCE Ordinary Level), she remarked that he was in this job because he did not pursue higher education.
She then proudly compared him to her child, who had earned a degree abroad and secured a job overseas.
A Calm and Smart Response
Instead of getting upset, the rider simply asked whether his son comes back home often. The woman replied that her child only came home once every two years.
With a smile, he responded, “At least I get to come home every day to see my mother and take her out for walks.”
His words left the woman in silence.
More Than Just a Job
The rider later shared the encounter on Facebook, where many praised his response.
His story showed that success is not solely defined by academic achievements or working overseas—it is also about being present for loved ones and taking pride in honest work.
