A zookeeper in Uzbekistan tragically lost his life on December 17, 2024, after entering a lion’s cage at a private zoo in Parkent during his night shift.
The man, identified as 44-year-old F. Iriskulov reportedly ventured into the lion’s den to impress his girlfriend, filming himself moments before the fatal attack.
According to reports, Iriskulov entered the cage around 5 a.m., unlocking the padlock to the lions’ den while recording the action.
The video shows three lions sitting calmly in their den’s corner. Iriskulov, apparently familiar with the animals, calls one of them “Simba” and even petted it.
A Shocking Turn of Events
What began as an act of bravado quickly turned horrifying. As shown in the footage, one of the lions licked its lips after being petted.
Moments later, the situation escalated when one of the lions sprang to its feet and approached Iriskulov aggressively.
The zookeeper’s panic is audible in the recording, as he repeatedly pleads with the animal to “be quiet.” Despite his attempts to calm the lions, one of them lunged at him, initiating a brutal attack.
The video, which continued recording, captured his desperate screams before abruptly cutting off. Following the attack, the lions escaped their dens onto the courtyard.
A Grim Discovery and Aftermath
Iriskulov’s remains were found four hours later. Authorities confirmed that the lions had mauled and partially consumed his body.
Rescue teams acted swiftly to control the situation, tranquilizing two of the lions while shooting the third one dead to prevent further harm.
According to Daily Mail, the Department of Internal Affairs reported that the lions were returned to a special enclosure.
Officials reassured the public that “no other people in the vicinity were harmed” and that “there is currently no danger to the local population.”
Fortunately, no other zoo visitors or staff were harmed.
