Popular TikTok Streamer Dies at 24
Efecan Kultur, a 24-year-old Turkish TikTok personality known for his ‘Mukbang’ videos, died on Friday, March 7, 2025, from health complications caused by obesity.
According to Turkiye Today, Kultur had been hospitalised since December 2024 after his condition worsened due to years of overeating on camera.

He later continued his treatment at home, where he passed away surrounded by caregivers.
Known for Eating Large Quantities On Camera
Kultur gained a following by posting Mukbang videos, a trend where content creators eat excessive amounts of food on camera while engaging with viewers.

He amassed almost 200,000 followers on TikTok and 3.7k subscribers on YouTube, where he regularly livestreamed and uploaded his eating videos.
In his final weeks, Kultur was bedridden and required machines to help him breathe. He could no longer move on his own and suffered from frequent bruising due to his weight.
He Could Not Visit His Mother’s Grave
Kultur’s declining health deeply impacted his daily life. Additionally, Daily Mail reported that he was unable to stand or walk and could not even visit his mother’s grave after she passed away a year earlier.
One of his last posts on social media showed him in bed alongside his caretakers and mother, with the caption “Family worship.” This was posted prior to his death announcement.

His funeral was held at Celaliye Mosque in the Büyükçekmece Celaliye neighbourhood of Istanbul, and he was laid to rest in Silivri Gumusyaka Cemetery.
Government Responds to Mukbang Trend
Efecan’s death has sparked renewed concern in Türkiye about the dangers of extreme online eating content.
According to reports, Turkish authorities are working on legislation to limit social media access for users under 16, aiming to reduce young people’s exposure to potentially harmful trends like Mukbang.
