At the age of 99, former Malaysian prime minister Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad continues to inspire people around the world.
During his appearance at the International Wellness Expo (IWE) 2024 on November 28 at the Malaysia International Trade & Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur, Dr. Mahathir opened up about his long life, debunking myths and sharing the habits that have kept him healthy and alert throughout nearly a century.

No Magic, Just a Routine
When questioned about his longevity, Dr. Mahathir rejected the idea of a magical remedy, insisting that there is no “elixir of life.”
He humorously dismissed rumors suggesting that blood transfusions had contributed to his health, describing the claims as “vampirish.”

Instead, he pointed to the key factor behind his vitality: discipline.
Simple Choices for a Healthy Life
Dr. Mahathir’s enduring health can be attributed to his simple yet disciplined lifestyle. He emphasized the importance of eating in moderation, avoiding bad habits, and focusing on positive choices.
“Key to all of it is discipline,” he explained, emphasizing how consistent decisions lead to long-term well-being.
Mental and Physical Balance
Beyond physical habits, Dr. Mahathir stressed the importance of staying mentally engaged. He maintains a daily routine of reading and writing, which helps him remain mentally sharp.

Additionally, regular physical activity ensures that he retains strength and mobility, even as he grows older.
A Lifetime of Managing Time
Known for his punctuality and strong time management skills, Dr. Mahathir shared how respecting time and sticking to a disciplined schedule has been a cornerstone of his productivity and success throughout his life.
Timeless Wisdom on Health and Living
Dr. Mahathir’s disciplined approach to life offers valuable insights for anyone aiming to live a long, purposeful life.
As one of the oldest living former heads of state, his story serves as a reminder that longevity is not about finding shortcuts, but living intentionally and making consistent, disciplined choices every day.
