Chinese Tourist Falls from Train While Filming and Dangling from Handrails; Miraculously Survived

A chilling incident unfolded on December 7, 2024, when a Chinese tourist travelling on Sri Lanka’s coastal railway line miraculously survived after falling from a moving train.

The passenger attempted to capture scenic views between Wellawatte and Bambalapitiya when a tree branch struck her, causing her to lose balance.

Risky Stunt Turned Dangerous

Social media footage captured the terrifying moment when the tourist leaned out of the train’s open door, gripping the handrails to record her journey.

Oblivious to her surroundings, she was struck by a low-hanging tree branch.

Her arms flailed in panic before she tragically fell from the train, as horrified passengers watched in disbelief.

Meanwhile, her friend, who was recording the incident, screamed in terror.

Thankfully, a bush partially cushioned her fall, preventing serious injuries, though she did sustain some minor scratches. The train quickly stopped at the next station, and passengers rushed back to assist her, The Sun reported.

Police and Authorities Issue Safety Warnings

According to Lankasara, Sri Lanka’s local police confirmed that the tourist escaped with minor injuries, a fortunate outcome for what could have been a fatal accident.

The authorities urged passengers to avoid dangerous stunts and focus on safety during train journeys.

Similar Content-Creation Mishaps

This incident recalls a similar one in Thailand earlier this year, where a 19-year-old Malaysian woman was injured while creating content on a moving train.

She struck her head on a pole between Sungai Kolok and Nakhon Si Thammarat, falling and bruising herself but avoiding internal injuries.

In response, Thai authorities have increased safety campaigns to prevent such risky behavior.
