On the occasion of Chinese New Year, the mythical character Sun Wukong was seen at Singapore’s Jewel Changi Airport. He appeared before visitors wearing colorful armor, golden ornaments and a crown adorned with phoenix feathers. So, a festive atmosphere was created inside the airport.

Tourists and locals flocked to take pictures. Such events are not new in multicultural Singapore, but this time the presence of the Monkey King created a special attraction.
Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year usually begins on the new moon day between January 21 and February 20. Then the festival lasts for 15 days until the full moon. This period is also called the Spring Festival. Singapore’s large Chinese community celebrates the festival through various events every year. So this special exhibition by Jewel Changi is part of that tradition.
Festive Atmosphere at Jewel
The presence of Sun Wukong amidst the green surroundings of Jewel Changi has caught the attention of the visitors. Especially against the backdrop of the rain vortex and the indoor garden, his outfit took on a different dimension.

Many stopped to take pictures and videos. There was extra excitement among the children. As a result, the airport turned into a festive center.
Who is Sun Wukong
In Chinese mythology, Sun Wukong is known as the ‘Monkey King.’ He is one of the main characters in the novel ‘Journey to the West.’ He has extraordinary strength and can take 72 different forms. In addition, each of his hairs has magical powers. However, he is also famous for his angry nature and mischief.
Legend Story
It is said that he was born from a magical stone. He could talk and walk immediately after birth. Later, he became the king of the monkeys and went to heaven and declared himself the ‘Great Sage Equal to Heaven.’

Due to his rebellious behavior, Buddha finally imprisoned him under the mountain. After that, he attained enlightenment through long introspection.
Singapore Context
Chinese New Year is an important national festival in Singapore. It is celebrated through public holidays and family gatherings. In addition, shopping malls and tourist attractions also hold special events. Therefore, the presence of Sun Wukong at Jewel Changi is a beautiful combination of cultural tradition and modernity. It is also a reflection of the country’s multicultural spirit.
