A dashcam video capturing a nerve-racking incident on a busy Malaysian road recently went viral, drawing widespread attention. The footage shows several cars stopping abruptly to avoid hitting a young child standing alone in the middle of the road, unaware of the danger.
The incident, recorded around 11:21 a.m. on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, occurred on a busy road. While the exact location wasn’t disclosed, the video clearly shows the child standing unsupervised, facing oncoming vehicles without any sign of caution.
Quick-Thinking Drivers Step In to Help
The video, shared by @/mynewshub on X and quickly spread on other platforms, starts with a white Perodua Axia driver who stops suddenly in the right lane after spotting the child on the road. This alerts other drivers, who also stop their vehicles, preventing what could have been a tragic accident.
Despite these close calls, the child continues wandering, nearly getting hit by a black Perodua Alza who swerves to avoid him. The driver quickly got out of his vehicle to check on the boy.
As more cars slow down to avoid the child, yet another driver in a silver Proton Saga steps out of his car to assist. Seeing the danger, he and other concerned drivers rush towards the child to get him off the road and into a safer area, ending the close call safely.
Reminder on Child Safety
Since being shared online, the video has prompted serious conversations about the risks children face when left unattended in public areas.
Many social media users expressed concern over the lack of adult supervision and the importance of staying vigilant to avoid similar situations.
One comment harshly criticized the parents, calling for child welfare authorities to step in and hold them accountable.
“Charge the parents, please—for child endangerment, child abuse, child negligence. Let them rot in jail.”
Another person speculated that the child lived nearby and was wandering near a busy highway, while also noting that this could have easily ended in tragedy.
On the other hand, a more positive response expressed gratitude for the drivers who acted quickly to help the child.
According to NST, as of 31 October 2024, neither the authorities nor the child’s family have issued any official statement about the incident.
