Fundraiser started for medical expenses of Bingo, a 1-year-old Chow Chow that was run over, and dragged under, a BMW in a hit-and-run accident

On or around 11.30pm on 11 January 2023, Bingo, an active and playful 1-year-old Chow Chow that was recently rescued by Rachel’s family, was run over, and dragged under, by the driver of a black BMW car at New Loyang Link. The driver did not stop after the collision.

The next day, an appeal for eye-witnesses and dashcam footage of the hit-and-run accident was published, which you can read at the link below.

Wake Up Singapore understands that a police report (T/20230112/7041) has since been filed, and the matter is being looked into by the Traffic Police Department. We also understand that footage from a nearby Shell station and construction site has captured the accident.

Bingo’s Extensive Injuries

While Bingo’s companion, a sprightly Golden Retriever, Robbie, managed to escape unscathed and found his way back home to seek help after running loose in the immediate aftermath of the accident, Bingo suffered serious and long-term injuries.

Bingo, who was rushed to a veterinary clinic, was treated for injuries on his arm, which broke in 3 places, and his hip.

For his broken arm, Bingo underwent a complex 3-hour-long surgery because of ‘bone fragments’. During the surgery, several implants and metal screws were inserted in his arm.

In her appeal for funds, Rachel shared that Bingo will have to undergo a total hip replacement and long-term rehabilitation.

Unfortunately, as a result of nerve damage from the accident, Bingo also lost his ability to contract his anus and, thus, would suffer fecal incontinence.

In addition to the various injuries set out above, Bingo also suffered ‘severe open skin lesions on his butt’ and is using a catheter to urinate.

Rachel told Wake Up Singapore that Bingo cries when he poops due to the pain from the surrounding lacertations.

He’s bedridden for now because of his hip still being dislocated. He is in so much pain he cries when he poops because of the lacerations over his anus. He also is using a catheter to pee.

My sister is still having major body aches and has been going to see a psychiatrist to talk through her trauma.

Bingo is a rescued dog

Rachel shared with Wake Up Singapore that the accident occurred just 3 days after Bingo was adopted by her family.

According to Paws for Cause, a local dog rescue group, Robbie and Bingo are dogs that were once abandoned by their previous owners.

An Instagram account (@bingoandrobbie) has been started for Rachel and her family to provide updates on Bingo’s recovery and the status of police investigations.

In a recently uploaded heartwarming video on the account, the concern that Robbie shows for his injured brother, Bingo, is unmistakably clear.

Fundraiser for Bingo’s medical expenses

For the surgery that he has undergone, and the future major surgeries and follow-up medical appointments that Bingo will require, it is estimated that the total expenditure would amount to SGD 50,800. A breakdown of these expenses is set out in the table below.

A fundraiser has been started on GoGetFunding to help raise the sum of SGD 50,800. As of 1.20am on 18 January 2023, more than SGD 14,000, or almost 30% of the target sum, has been raised through the collective efforts of no less than 179 donors.

The sum raised thus far will help to offset the payments for Bingo’s initial hospitalisation and his arm surgery, which amount to SGD 11,633.00 based on the latest update to the fundraising campaign.

In the spirit of full transparency, all the invoices from Advance Vetcare are published on the fundraising platform.

In her message to donors, Rachel wrote:-

“We are hoping you can help us give Bingo an opportunity to regain his mobility to become the active, playful dog he once was before this atrocious act of cruelty. At this current moment, we are waiting for the police to get in touch with us. We will continue to update all medical bills and the progress of the police investigation here.

Thank you for your help”

If you can, please do consider donating to help Bingo’s recovery. No amount is too small. Do help share the link to the fundraiser and the Instagram page as well to encourage others to donate, and to keep updated of any developments.

Wake Up Singapore wishes the brave warrior, Bingo, a speedy recovery. We are sure he is in good hands with Rachel’s family, the vets, and, of course, Robbie, by his side and cheering him on.
