From robot baristas preparing food and beverages to humanoid performers playing musical instruments, the 2026 Zhongguancun Forum on Thursday offered a glimpse into a near future where machines take over increasingly complex human tasks.

Footage from the Zhongguancun International Innovation Centre shows robots dancing, performing in bands, and serving customers at a fully automated cafe, as visitors interact with next-generation artificial intelligence and robotics systems.

At the centre of attention is a ‘robot food court’, where multiple machines work together in a coordinated system to prepare and deliver orders. According to Wu Zhengchu, technical manager at Lejutongyan Robotics, the process is designed to be fully automated.

“Customers can place orders by scanning a QR code at the ordering kiosk, with each robot responsible for preparing different food and beverage items,” Wu said.

He noted that the technology marks a shift from earlier demonstrations focused on isolated capabilities. “This year, however, robots are capable of performing tasks that previously required human intervention, creating a fully integrated service scenario,” he added.

During the forum’s opening day, the robot cafe processed around 100 orders, with each order completed in approximately two minutes.

Beyond service robots, companies are also showcasing advances in precision engineering. Li Jian, product manager at Beijing Daqi Yuequan Bionic Technology, presented a biomimetic robotic hand designed to replicate human anatomy.

“The internal structure of our robotic hand mirrors that of the human body. It features biomimetic ligaments, joints, and tendons, just like our own hands,” Li explained.

The device is capable of generating a grip force of up to 33 kilograms, with fingertip precision reaching 0.04 millimetres, making it suitable for high-precision tasks.

The forum, which runs from March 25 to 29, is held under the theme ‘Full Integration Between Technological and Industrial Innovation.’
