Students at Chua Chu Kang Secondary probably never imagined the Teacher-in-Charge front-and-center under the stage lights. Yet that was the very thing that happened during the Modern Dance CCA presentation.
The Subject Head, Mr. Ng, shimmed and glided beside his students in perfect unison with the group and received thunderous cheers from the excited audience.
The video, uploaded on TikTok by one of the choreographers, user @/thousaidwhat, four days ago, quickly gained traction.
The clip was captioned, “Teacher in Charge joins CCA on Stage for Teacher’s Day Performance,” and netizens couldn’t get enough of the surprise appearance.
Online Reactions: “Coolest Teacher Ever”
Comments poured in with viewers calling Ng “cool” and praising his ability to connect with his students.
One user wrote, “This is the coolest thing I’ve seen in a while. Love it so much.” Another added, “I want a teacher like him!”

On Instagram, user @/sqasity highlighted the effort behind the scenes, noting how Ng often puts in late nights handling schoolwork and admin tasks.
They wrote,
“Am glad you managed to join in this dance with your CCA students despite the gruelling schedule, and gosh you nailed it!”
More Than Just Dance Moves
For many, the performance was more than entertainment—it symbolised the bond between teachers and students.
“Thank you for being such a good teacher! I can see how much your students adore you,” wrote another commenter.
Netizens also acknowledged the teamwork that made the performance stand out, and many agreed that teachers should be friendly with their students in similar ways.
One teacher replied to the video on TikTok saying that he had also once danced with his students on stage during a Teacher’s Day event back in 2013.
Paul Mohan Arokiasam shared that he once danced to Gangnam Style and the performance, uploaded on YouTube on 24 May, 2013, is titled Convent butterworth’s hero.

Teacher’s Day in Singapore
In Singapore, Teacher’s Day lands on the first Friday of September every year, thereby providing students the chance to celebrate the educators who become part of their lives.

The celebrations range beyond just giving gifts. Students write sincere thank-you notes, decorate the classrooms, put together surprise performances, or even shoot appreciation videos. Some schools arrange for a concert or surprise during lunch, and some terminate the celebrations with snacks, flowers, and small tokens of appreciation.
Teacher’s Day is a reminder of the dedication, patience, and passion adopted by these instructors in their day-to-day activities in the classroom, no matter how the gesture is made.
