A lecturer at a Malaysian skills institute is facing a series of serious criminal charges involving two of his own students.
A 38-year-old man, Ahmad Syahir Sharifudeen, was brought to the Sessions Court in Kemaman, Terengganu, on Wednesday (27 March 2025) to face eight charges involving non-consensual sexual acts, including the alleged use of objects and unnatural intercourse.
Offenses Committed Against His Students
According to NST, the alleged offenses were committed against two 19-year-old female students between 17 November and 1 December 2024.
The incidents reportedly took place at two locations:
- A parking lot of Mesra Mall in Kemasik, Terengganu,
- and a hotel in Awana Kijal, Terengganu.
Sexual Assault Charges Carry Up to 30 Years in Jail
Ahmad Syahir was charged with five counts of committing sexual acts involving objects and three counts of unnatural intercourse.
These charges were filed under Section 377CA and Section 377C (for unnatural intercourse) of the Penal Code, respectively.
If convicted, he will face:
- up to 30 years’ imprisonment and whipping under the first section,
- and up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping under the second.

He pleaded not guilty to all eight charges.
Transferred to Putrajaya, Says Lawyer
During the court proceedings, the Deputy Public Prosecutor proposed bail of RM15,000 (approx. S$4,484.47) for each charge.
However, his defense lawyer requested a lower amount.
She told the court that her client had since been transferred to Putrajaya and had no communication with the victims. She also said he is the sole breadwinner supporting his mother and wife.
The court then set bail at RM23,000 (approx. S$6,875.71) in total and ordered Ahmad Syahir to report to the nearest police station once a month.
Additional Charges for Sexual Harassment of Two Students
According to Astro Awani, Ahmad Syahir also appeared in the Kemaman Magistrate’s Court the same day to face three more charges.
This time, under Section 354 of the Penal Code (offense of outraging a person’s modesty through assault or criminal force), he faces charges for allegedly using force with the intent to harm the dignity of the same two students.

These incidents reportedly took place at the Mesra Mall parking lot between 17 November and 1 December last year.
He pleaded not guilty to all three charges.
The offense under Section 354 carries a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, or fine, or whipping, or any combination of these.
Sex Toys Allegedly Found at Institute Lobby
In addition to the sexual assault-related charges, Ahmad Syahir was charged with possessing inappropriate materials.
This charge came from an alleged discovery of two types of sex toys at the lobby of the skills institute where he worked, on 13 March 2025.
He was charged under Section 292 of the Penal Code, which carries a penalty of up to 3 years’ jail, or fine, or both.
He also pleaded not guilty to this charge.
The court set bail at RM10,000 (approx. S$2,989.20) with one surety for the charge related to inappropriate materials and scheduled the case to be reviewed again.
