Since then, Demna apologized on Instagram , taking responsibility for the ads: “As much as I would sometimes like to provoke a thought through my work, I would NEVER have an intention to do that with such an awful subject as child abuse that I condemn.” The designer promised they would take steps to ensure similar mistakes are avoided in the future and protect kids’ welfare. Demna’s statement did not appear to address the campaign featuring the court documents.
Balenciaga has been known for extreme campaigns. For instance, they may have a runway show in which models are wearing expensive clothes while trudging through muddy and blizzard alike conditions. This controversy has caused some people to feel hesitant about being associated with Balenciaga. We can only speculate on the possible reasons they may have had for making this decision. Balenciaga will most likely recover from this, although it will take time—a long time—and this will most likely go down as an unforgettable low point in the fashion house’s history.
