Check out Sungei Buloh Wildlife Reserve and take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city. With sights and greenery that will impress you while you exercise, you may even see some migratory wildlife depending on when you visit.

The reserve’s various natural habitats like mangroves, mudflats, forests, and ponds that is great for picking up some simple observation skills as you spend some time identifying the various plants, flora and fauna.

Not only that, but Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve has also been recognised by Wetlands International as a site of international importance for migratory birds and is also Singapore’s first ASEAN Heritage Park.

During the migratory season from September to March, you can catch the sight of the diverse flocks of shorebirds or waders including plovers and sandpipers!

Here are some of the amazing things you can do and see when you visit the reserve.

TRAILS

There are 4 main trails in Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve as follows:

  • Coastal Trail – 1.3km
  • Forest Trail – 0.3km
  • Mid-canopy Trail – 0.15km
  • Migratory Bird Trail – 1.95km

Each of the trails provide different views and angles that vary in terms of length that is great for beginners and the more advanced trail seekers. If you are up for it, try out all 4 trails to experience everything that the reserve is able to provide. An early start is recommended so that it does not get too hot in the afternoon.

Pods and Boardwalks

Sprinkled across the reserve are boardwalks that provide passage over the mangroves where visitors can get up-close and personal with various flora and fauna. Located in Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, there are 3 main pods known as Kingfisher Pod, Mudskipper Pod and the Dragonfly Pod.

These pods have a unique design that allows for amazing contrasts between nature and man-made structure that is worth visiting and viewing up close. One of the most well-known board walks is the Eagle Point Boardwalk which is located along the Coastal Trail. If you are lucky, there may be a chance to spot some White-bellied Sea Eagles flying across the Straits river.

Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve Visitor Centre

For a brief respite after your hike, the visitor centre offers up an air-conditioned venue where visitors can get to know more about the history of the reserve at the gallery while enjoying some cool air before heading off to your next trail or pit stop.

To visit Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve, you can take bus 925 from Kranji MRT Station and alight at Kranji Reservoir Carpark B, located next to the visitor centre. With beautiful sights that await, visit one of the treasured heritage parks in Singapore with a friend or two today!
