Pink Baskets Spark New Connections
Selected supermarkets in Finland are giving single shoppers a new way to meet, introducing bright pink baskets that signal customers are open to starting a conversation with potential partners while they shop.
Footage captured on Sunday shows bright pink ‘Singles Baskets’ lined up at the entrance of a Helsinki supermarket, before shoppers pick them up to carry their grocery purchases.

Customers with pink baskets are signalling they’re single and ready to mingle while doing their weekly shop. The light-hearted idea has generated attention online, with many welcoming a break from dating apps.
“I have been using one, and I think it’s a very fun idea for people to meet each other. It’s like an online Tinder, basically, if you’re going in the store,” said one shopper, adding she hopes it eventually helps her meet someone.

Some Shoppers Stay Unsure
There have been a few teething difficulties with the initiative. “I just know my friend. He took one by accident. He didn’t know that those were actually used for those, and somebody came to talk to him,” said one local, who also admitted he was not keen on the idea himself.

Still, some shoppers felt a chance meeting in a supermarket beats matching with strangers online. “I think it’s a nice idea. It’s natural. And I hope that the apps will die,” said another shopper.
Hope For Real-Life Romance

The initiative has attracted attention well beyond Finland, with supporters saying it offers a more natural way to meet people than scrolling through dating apps. Whether shoppers leave with just groceries or a new romance remains to be seen, but supporters hope the initiative will prove that even the supermarket aisle can help bring strangers together.
